FALL 2005 CATHOLIC ROUNDTABLE—TOPIC SELECTED
This fall, the adult faith formation group Catholic Roundtable will be reading and discussing THE COMPACT HISTORY OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH by Dr. Alan Schreck. Those who wish to join the group this coming fall may wish to purchase the book soon and begin reading. It is available both new and used via the internet; however, it can also be located in used and new bookstores. A complete schedule and registration information for Catholic Roundtable will be provided in August. Catholic Roundtable, a facilitated discussion group as opposed to a lecture class, traditionally meets on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. during the fall of each year. THE COMPACT HISTORY OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH is a lively and readable guide to the life of the Church through the ages. Designed as an introduction to the history of Catholicism, the resource offers not only names, dates, and places, but also the topics and issues of each period, guiding readers through the maze of politics, scandals, and heresies which have challenged the Church. Most importantly, in the book, Dr. Schreck brings to life the people of God in each century who have faithfully loved and served the Church, often at the cost of great personal sacrifice and persecution

Our Church office has five wonderful parishioners who volunteer in the morning from 9:30 am-12:30 pm. They answer the phone, make copies and other various office duties. We are in need of substitute office volunteers when one of our scheduled volunteers take a must deserved vacation. If you are interested in helping with this very important mission of St.  Mark please call Carol Walker in the church office.

Prison Ministry needs volunteers to serve the young men at the State Youth Facility in this area. Both gentlemen who were involved in this ministry have had to resign because of other commitments. The persons who will serve in this ministry need to be mature, strong in faith and character and be good mentors for young men ages 16 and 17. The program includes a study of the Catholic faith, a bible study and prayer. Materials and training will be provided for this long-term commitment. We would like to have a team of at least 3 men who could work together and give a couple of hours on alternate Saturdays. If interested, please contact Carol Macsas, DRE, at stmarkdre@hotmail.com.
